Turbotax won't let me e-file Federal tax without Driver's License / State ID

I do not have an unexpired Driver's License / State ID, which should be no problem since it is not required for e-filing Federal taxes.

I would like to e-file Federal taxes and file an Illinois non-resident return by mail (I know Illinois requires a State ID to e-file).

But after providing the IP PIN it requires me to also provide a Driver's License or State ID (no third option given, and one has to be selected).

How can I proceed here?

Can you clarify if you just left the screen blank and proceeded? This has worked in past years, but if it is not, please post again and we can check further into it.

I select "E-file" for the Federal return and "File by mail" for the Illinois return (I also tried to set "I will file later" for the IL return, but same result).
After providing my phone number and IP PIN I get to a screen "Next, what type of state-issued ID do you have?"
It only has two radio buttons: "Driver's License" and "State ID".
When I try to not select anything and click continue, I get the red error on the radio buttons "Please make a choice".

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:

Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.
Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.
Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.
Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."
Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.

Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

I tried to clear the caches, restart the browser and do it in a private window. Also in Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Unfortunately, same result: It requires me to select one of the radio buttons "Driver's License" or "State ID". What else can I do to e-file my Federal tax return?

@MaryK4 @CatinaT1 I still cannot e-file my Federal tax return because it requires a State ID / Driver's License (was not the case in previous years and should not be the case now). How can I e-file my Federal tax return with Turbotax?

I also cannot efile as have no usa drivers licence or state id. It then offers to let me identify using a usa address but as I live overseas I don't have that either...

You can e-file your federal return on TurboTax without a state ID or driver's license by leaving the identification fields blank or selecting a "neither" option.

While identification is not required by the IRS, some states may reject the e-file without it, requiring you to file your state return (if applicable) by mail. You are not required to enter a drivers license or state ID to e-file your federal return.
