The Family HSA contribution limit is indeed $8,550, and TurboTax uses this amount.

Why do you think that TurboTax uses $4,300? More detail, please.

To get the HSA form to show the Family limit, you must check that you were covered by a Family HDHP for that month. If you are married and you spouse had qualifying family coverage, you are deemed to have qualifying family coverage. If both have separate family coverage, both must have qualifying family coverage

Minimum annual deductible of $3,300. Maximum out-of-pocket, excluding premiums, of $16,600

My spouse was a "Self only" plan.

My plan was "Family plan". When I have more than $4300 for contributions, I get a message that we had excess HSA contributions.

Under these circumstances you are both treated as having family HDHP coverage. The sum of your contributions and your spouse's contributions is not permitted to exceed the family limit of $8,550.

I have my individual plan ($4300 max) while my wife has family plan with my son ($8550 max), our HSA max would be $8550+4300 right since we are on separate plans?
