topic OR Non-resident tax return on IRA distribution although I live in SD in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I am a resident of SD and have been for many years. As my financial institution (eTrade) required a physical address, the only one I had at the time of account set up was my second home in OR so I used that address (was in house transition in SD). I have had a physical address in SD for many years after the eTrade account set up, but forgot to change my account address with eTrade to SD. I took 2 IRA distributions in 2025 and eTrade on my 1099 put the State/Payers state tax (box 15) as OR. Am I subject to filing a non-resident state tax return in in OR? My concern is the distribution is reported to OR, but the reality is I am NOT an OR resident and never have been. It is a paperwork issue. What do I do?

No, if your domicile is South Dakota you are not required to report or pay taxes to Oregon on your retirement income. If there was Oregon state tax withholding, you can omit the OR state on your 1099-R entry in TurboTax.

There is a federal law that you only have to pay state income tax to your resident state (if required) on retirement income.
