I see the adjustment for your IRA on 40-P, but on what line is the adjustment for the HSA? Also, which type of HSA contribution is this: the payroll deduction (W-2, box 12, code W) or the direct contribution to the HSA custodian (line 13 on Schedule 1, form 1040)?

Thank you for your reply! The HSA amount should be $4850, direct contribution, and it is entered correctly on the Oregon side but nothing in the Federal side field. This is the worksheet section just below line 26 on OR-40P. IRA is line 21 of Form 40P, should be $8000 and is also correct on the Oregon column but missing on the Fed side. I will try to post screenshots separately below if I can.

Try these three methods in the order given to see if this will clear the error.

Go back to the Federal tab.

Navigate to Wages & Income (or any section with a number).

Click Edit on a small entry (like $10 of interest). Change it to a different number,

This forces the TurboTax to run a full recalculation.

Immediately go back to the State tab and revisit the Oregon section. This often forces the Federal Column on the 40-P to "wake up" and populate.

Close your return to save the change

Open it back to reinsert the change you made in step 3.

If this doesn't work, try this.

In the left-hand menu, select Tax Tools > Tools.

Select Delete a form.

Find Form 8889 (for HSAs) and the IRA Contribution Worksheet

Delete them. (Don't worry, your W-2 data stays, but the calculation forms reset).

Close the program and then open it back up again. this will save the change.

Go back to the Federal interview and quickly re-step through the HSA and IRA sections.

Once finalized, return to the Oregon state return. The fresh forms often link correctly where the old ones failed.

This third step is to be used if the other two fail.

Go to your State interview Tab. Select the trash icon and remove the state return

Sign out of TurboTax

Clear your cache and cookies.

Now log back again and restart your State interview. it should now successfully pull the data from the federal return into your Oregon state return.

So I just received a bill from Oregon Dept of Revenue. They adjusted my return because a previously taxed employee retirement plan contribution of $3891 did not meet the proper conditions. Turbotax included this amount on Schedule OR-ASC, Section B7. It shows a code of 327. I don't know where this number even came from and I don't know if it is an error in Turbotax or an entry error on my part. Please advise!

I can't find a code 327 in the Oregon instructions. There is a code 325 (Schedule OR-ASC-NP filers only), however, is this what you meant?

Code 325 refers to an Oregon state tax refund.

Which number are you wondering about? The 327? or the $3,891?

Ah. The solution was not in the Oregon instructions, but in Publication OR-CODES, Numeric Codes for Oregon Adjustments, Additions, Subtractions, Modifications, and Credits for tax year 2025.

As you can see in this document, code 327 refers to "Previously taxed employee retirement plan contributions".

What I am reading suggests that the 3,891 was a retirement distribution that was taxed in another state but not in Oregon.

In the Oregon interview, look for the screen titles "IRA and Pension Distributions". Did you check off "some or all of our IRA or pension withdrawals were taxed by another state". If you check this and hit Continue, the next screen asks "Report Pension Amount". Did you perhaps put 3,891 here?

I can’t see the interview anymore since the returns were filed, but yes, my husband has a pension paid monthly which is taxed as ordinary income. So I apportioned the amounts based on how long we resided in each state. This amount would be the payments received after we moved to Oregon, which were not taxed by Arizona but possibly would be taxed by Oregon.

No, it was exactly five months of pension. The IRA was not an employee retirement contribution plan, it was opened in October after my husband retired, and we made a one time contibution to it of $8000. He did not have an IRA as an employee, but his pension was from a prior employer.

That's what I get for guessing on a return that I cannot see. 🙂

I take it that your original issue of the amounts in the federal column disappearing resolved itself? My test worked just fine.

Yes, that did work, thank you! This letter from the tax people was a surprise and I’m trying to figure out if it as an error I made, a bug in the software, or something else.

You should have contact info on the letter you received where you can explain that you apportioned pension income between two states lived in during 2025. There are screens in the interview where you most likely did this. If you used TurboTax Online, under 'Tax Returns and Docs' you can choose 'Add a State' to re-open a filed return.

Here's more info on How to File a Part-Year Resident Return.
