When will form 1040X become available for 2025?

I have an additional W-2 I need to add. My return has been accepted. Each time I try to amend my return with 1040X I get the message "This section will be ready soon."

The amendment form 1040X will only be available on TurboTax after 2/25/2026.

If you are expecting a refund, we recommend that you wait to amend until after the IRS has processed your original return and you have received your refund.

A week ago, it said that the 1040X would be available today (Thursday, 19 February). Is this going continue to be pushed to the right?

The 1040-X will be available in late February.

There are three boxes:

Select return type | 1040 Individual
Select agency | US-Federal
Third Box | Enter Form Number 1040X

The amended return is much lower priority for the IRS to finalize and approve and we guesstimate based on past experience. Once the IRS approves the final version for e-file, our team can incorporate it. Keep checking back, it will show up.

NOW... your INUIT website states the following?

Since I requested an update from Turbo Tax online for availability of 1040X;

The Form 1040X is scheduled to be available on March 4. The date is subject to change, so check on 3-4 to see if it is ready. Before that, do not change anything at all on your return.

Not until the IRS updates the Form 1040-X instructions for tax year 2025 can TurboTax provide a 2025 Form 1040-X.

To clarify, the TurboTax Forms Availability tool was recently updated and shows March 4, 2026 as the availability date for Form 1040X.

Today 2/25/26 I just got off a 1.5 hour call to find out the IRS pushed the amended returns back to 3/4/26.

I called on the 4th when the amend feature would become available. I was told it would now be the 6th. It is still not not available. But the IRS website says it is. So you are clearly not waiting on the IRS https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1040x This is where I got my information from. What is the hold up now? I have read that it can take months for the IRS to process an amended return and want to get this done as quickly as possible as I have already gotten my refund from the IRS. I was also told my state had nothing to do with amending a return so we are not waiting on them.

If you are using desktop software you may need to do a manual update. Try clearing your Cache and Cookies and then try this link instructions.

If you are using the online software, Clear Cache and Cookies.

As of today, the 1040X is not available on TurboTax.

Update your software to the latest release.

Click on Online at the top of the desktop program screen. Click on Check for updates.

To amend a tax return -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)

Click on Other Tax Sitruations

Under Other Tax Forms

On Amend a return, click on the start button
