The answers I have seen so far do not address this situation. My wife and I initially both completed our tax forms with a married filing separately status, and itemized deductions. We would now like to switch both of our forms to the standard deduction to compare the total tax burden for both of us. TurboTax won't let us change. The screen says "Since your spouse is itemizing deductions, you cannot claim the standard deduction and must itemize."

We haven't filed yet, and we want to see what our total tax burden would be if we both switch to the standard deduction. How do we both switch to the standard deduction?

Try going back to the My Info section of each of your returns and edit the information that was entered for the spouse. There is a check box in that section stating that one of you are claiming itemized deductions. If that box is checked, then you both are required to claim itemized deductions. Unchecking the box should allow you to use the standard deduction instead.
