Turbotax file for 2024 I down loaded do not match my IRS transcript, how can I find the copy that I sent via e-file?

I downloaded a copy of my 2024 return from Turbotax. However, it does not match my IRS transcripts that I downloaded from IRS and my bank history of tax refund. How can I get a copy of the file that I actually sent via e-file?

Does that 2024 PDF you downloaded have any of these pages: the Electronic Filing Instructions, the Electronic Postmark, and Summary Page with your refund deposit information?

In that section where you downloaded your 2024 return ("Your Tax Returns & Documents"), what is showing for the status of the 2024 return--does it say accepted, rejected, printed, started, or something else?

Sometimes people have started a return in more than 1 account. If it becomes necessary, we can tell you how to look for other accounts. But first we have to see if that account is the one used to efile your return to the IRS. How you respond to the above questions will be a clue.

Also, after efiling last year did you go back into your return interview and make any changes in it or start an amended return?

Thanks for your reply. The pdf I downloaded from Turbotax does not contained summary pages, e-file instruction or refund account information etc as you stated. I do have several accounts with Intuit but I did go through everyone of them and could not find the details of my 2024 refund. In my 2024 turbotax app, I checked the e-file status, it said IRS accepted all my fed and states returns. But the refund amount shown on the pdf does not match fed and state refund. I don't how to get to the one that matches both.

Please let me know how can I find out the correct one.

What do you mean by 'app"--are you referring to the mobile app on a phone or tablet? I don't use that, so I can't speak to that.. The information I provided above was for Online TurboTax, which if you are using the mobile app, you should also be able to access on a computer with a browser. So look in Online TurboTax with the steps I originally provided. However, if by "app" you meant the desktop software, then that would change the whole game.

When using Online TurboTax (not the mobile app), at the Tax Home when you go to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" and choose 2024, it should show if the 2024 return was accepted, rejected, started, printed, etc. It's in the same place where you find the 2024 PDF to download. If it says "accepted" there, then that's the same account that was used to file the return. It's confusing, however, why the 2024 PDF (if it was downloaded in that section) does not contain the Electronic Postmark, Filing Instructions page, etc.

I can tell you how to look for multiple accounts in case you missed one. If you need further help after that, you'll need to phone the people at TurboTax Customer Support to help you in realtime and to see if they have any explanation. I'll provide their contact info below.

How to look for multiple accounts:

To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below. When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it. After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access.

NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session.

If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access, here's another method:

Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.

Thanks for your reply. I am using the turbotax desk top version. I was able to download the .tax file for 2024. However, it does not show the information you described. I also get online (intuit), log on my account, go to download and able to download one 2024 file. It is the same content as the one I got using the desktop 2024 version.

I did call Turbotax support line and spoke to a person, She said there is only one file in my account based on the email address I provided. I know the email address I provided was the right one as I received email on this account saying my 2024 return was accepted. I got the refund but the amount just does not match the amount shown on the .tax 2024 file. I suspect there is another one that I was not able to find.

???????? Oh my...If you used the 2024 desktop version, then that really compounds any confusion. My answers above were not for the desktop version but were geared toward Online TurboTax. I got thrown off-base when you said you had downloaded your 2024 return .tax file from your account.

How did it get there if you didn't use Online TurboTax but instead used desktop software???

If you used the 2024 desktop TurboTax, the *.tax2024 data file and/or 2024 PDF should not be in an Online account--unless you yourself uploaded it to your online account for storage. A desktop return does not automatically end up in one's Online account--it stays on your computer system wherever you saved it. The 2 versions do not sync in that regard. Online returns are saved online, while by default, desktop returns are saved locally on one's computer. If you used the 2024 desktop software, I don't know why you found a *.tax2024 data file or PDF in your Online TurboTax account to download unless you uploaded it there for storage.

Do you know any reason as to why you found a *.tax2024 data file in your online account? Or could you have started a return in Online TurboTax last year then switched to the desktop product to finish and efile the return?

I'm pretty confused at this point, and I'm still not confident I understand what all you did or did not do and how you prepared the 2024 return. But since you now say you are using the 2024 desktop software, I'll go ahead and tell you how to look for additional desktop *.tax2024 data files.

Check this first: Launch your 2024 desktop TurboTax software and open that *.tax2024 data file. NOTE: Do NOT make any changes in the return in case you ever have to amend it.

Once your 2024 return is open in the software, go into Forms Mode. If that was the return that was efiled to the IRS, then in the list of forms you "should" be able to find a form called the Electronic Postmark, which shows the dates and times your return were efiled and accepted. Do you find the Electronic Postmark in the forms list and does it show transmittal and acceptance dates and times? It may be way down on the list of Federal forms.

If you still think that's not the right data file, then you can search your entire computer system for any file ending in *.tax2024 to see if you can find another one. Also search any external storage you might have used and any cloud storage, such as OneDrive. Also look in the Recycle Bin. If you are using Windows and have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the searches from within each one.

Since I don't have confidence that I completely understand what all you did, I'll let you decide which of my bits and pieces of suggestions in regard to desktop TurboTax vs. Online TurboTax might be relevant to your situation.

I found the one with . Tax 2024 file but I don’t believe it is the right one. I need to compare it with my hard copy tax return last year to see what entries created the discrepancies. I don’t have the hard copy with me now so I am going to wait until I returned home . Thanks for all your help. I will keep you posted about what I found .
