topic Excess Contribution HSA in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I cant figure out why Turbo Tax is giving me a significantly higher excess contribution message for my HSA.

Context: In 2024 I had HCHP for every month in a self plan, did not have any excess contributions. In 2025, I got married in the fall and switched by self plan to my wife's non HCHP plan. I was covered with my self HCHP Jan thru Sept. So I was covered most of the year, but not all, and currently do not have an HSA (my wife never has)

On my box W on W2, I input $3700

When I input my 1099-SA from my HSA I indicate I had 59.60 for Box 1 on gross distributions and I say Yes to "Was I covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) in 2025?" but also select "I had different plan types at different times of the year". I indicate for 2025 that I was on Self plan from Jan thru Sept and None for Oct-Dec. I calculate my max contribution and its $3,225.

I indicate I had self for "What type of High Deductible Health Plan did l have on December 1, 2024?"

I input $4,150 per my 2024 Form 8889 when asked for 2024 Total Contributions and 0 for both excess contributions and Deduction allocated to spouse.

When asked my coverage for 2024, I put self for every month.

It says "We calculated $221 for income to include under the last-month rule, but you told us a different amount. Remove your entry below to use our calculation, or leave your total if you have a situation that requires uncommon adjustments." - regardless of if I keep that $221 or remove it:

Turbo Tax says I have an excess contribution of $4175 and I cannot figure out why. My understanding is based on the above, is $475 because my contributions were 3700 and max prorated amount I could have was 3225

Any help is appreciated

delete what you entered for 2024 because in Turbotax

When it asks about the coverage on 12/1 of 2024, it's really asking if you used the last month rule that taxpayers use to make a full year's contribution when not covered by an HDHP all of 2024 - terrible TutboTax programming - no warning. You did not use the last-month rule because yiou had HDHP coverage for every month in 2024

o that.
