topic 1099-R item #16 in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I have several 1099-R forms. All of them have Box #16 “State Distribution” blank—there are no numbers in that box. Turbo Tax will not let me finish and file the taxes until I put a number in Box 16.

I contacted the Payer and asked if they missed that box when completing the Form 1099R but they said they did the form correctly and Turbo Tax should let me complete my taxes. I don’t know what to do. Can Turbo Tax take off the requirement for a number in Box 16? Thank you.

It's possible you live in a state that does not have an income tax, so the state distribution may be left off the form.

The state distribution amount would be the same as the federal amount listed in box 1, assuming you didn't live in different states during the year. You can enter that amount in TurboTax.
