Do you mean that you ended up getting job with health insurance through the employer later in the year? When you no longer needed the marketplace insurance, did you notify healthcare.gov?

From Healthcare.gov:

If you're enrolled in a Marketplace plan and your income or household changes, update your application as soon as possible.

These changes — like higher or lower income, adding or losing household members, or getting offers of other health coverage — may affect the coverage or savings you’re eligible for. After you finish applying or enrolling, you may be asked to submit documents to confirm your income.

I had a job from Jan-May with health insurance from my employer. Then I was unemployed and get the Marketplace insurance from July-December. My only incone during that time was unemployment.

The amount of the Premium Tax Credit you are eligible for is based on your income for the entire year, not just the period during which you had Marketplace Insurance. If you did not include the amount you received before signing up for the Marketplace Insurance your Advance Payment of the Premium Tax Credit may have been more than what you were actually eligible for based on your total 2025 income reported on your tax return. If this is the case, then you would be subject to Repayment of Excess Advance Payment of the Premium Tax Credit. For additional information see Part III of:
