5329-T and 8606-T

I completed and went over my information numerous times to make sure everything was entered correctly. However, on the Federal Review page it won't let me continue to review because it says these tax forms are not available yet for review. I don't understand what is going on. I never had this issue before. Please help!

both these shows availability today in the forms tool (= at some point today, later, maybe tomorrow, maybe not - these are estimates not guarantees and could still move around) and have been switching in and out of available or 1/23 this week during the release of the retirement section this week. So presumably there is some open question preventing them being released for filing. This all due to the big bill and other forms changes from IRS. you'll just have to wait a little longer if you are actually ready to file - IRS isn't accepting returns til 1/26 anyway except for early test batches.

As of now, still no update to form 8606. I don't understand what the hold up is. I can get the current version of the form on the IRS website.

The date has moved to 1/24 in the forms availability tool. which could mean s/w update on 1/25. It could also move again. Just have to be patient on this stuff. Presumably there is some sticking point with certifying the form for filing.

The forms tool says available but no forms update yet. Within the desktop app smart check it's changed from Available Soon to 1/28/26 date.

@GabiU @CatinaT1 pls can you provide guidance on these two forms, we're seeing inconsistent and shifting availability/date info.

I have opened my TT multiple times today and there are no software updates. I even went to the Online tab and clicked check for updates and nothing. In my Fed tax file it now shows that form 8606 is supposed to be out on 1/28. I've been given multiple dates over the past 5 days and nothing.

If you received an email saying a form was released but you still do not see it in your TurboTax Desktop software, please be aware that while the form has been finalized, the software updates take a bit longer to be deployed. Full access will be available once the updates are fully integrated into the software. Please check again for form 8606 on or after January 28th.

Still no 8606 update as of now. I can't say it enough how frustrated I am with TT. I have been given dates of 1/24, 1/25, 1/26 and 1/28 and all have been missed. Now I'm being told something around the 28th or "soon there after?" When I open my TT file it now says "coming soon" with no dates. Unbelievable that TT can't set a date to commit to and actually meet that date. Very, very disappointing. I'm tired of the excuses.

Form 8606 is available today in TurboTax Desktop. In FORMS, although the form says 'do not file' at the top, you can still enter your info there and it will update when the form is finalized.

In TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies and re-try.

I am using the desktop version (WIN11). It doesn't do me any good to manually input the information in forms if I can't e-file my return.

I'm having the same issue.... Form 8606 should've been available today (1/28/2026) according to my desktop version and it's not. Now it just says 'Ready Soon' instead on the desktop version. Yet on the TT forms website, it still says it's available TODAY. The form is filled out... it was a whopping two lines of data input and yet, I can't file because the form's not ready... If the form ready today, then it should be downloadable today.

I manually entered information needed on the Forms screen for 8606-T and it still won't let me file my taxes. Why?

Marilyn CG1, If I can't file my return, it's not really available (esp with the big red letters on the form itself saying DO NOT FILE.) If it was available, I'd be able to file my return... Stop with the semantics... Available implies the form/process is completely functional including submission of the form and it's not.

Let's reword this, perhaps we'd like to know when Form 8606 will be completely functional (from filling out to submission), not just 'available-sort of' so we can file our tax returns.

the desktop s/w update for 8606 and 5329 is available this morning

@MarilynG1 @GabiU @SuziM @RobertB4444 - some feedback - we are seeing a couple of times now a date is given here in the forum or in the tool, but it's actually in the s/w release that is available the next morning e.g. 1099R we were told 1/21 but it was really available on 1/22, again this week for 8606 people were told 1/28 but it was really 1/29. I'd suggest incorporating that delay for the actual s/w release in future estimates, folks are really watching these dates and get even more frustrated as you can see from many threads on these topics in the forum.
