topic I tried to split tax withholding using 8958, when subtract the withholding from the higher incomer, it only take a negative value, but it add that value to withholding in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I am trying to split the income between me and my wife using form 8958, but when I try to adjust the tax withholding from the higher incomer, I am adding the difference in the subtraction adjustment, however, it only takes a negative value, but it seems to add that amount instead of subtracting it. For example, person A withheld 10k, person B withheld 2k, when I try to adjust person A's tax withheld amount from 10k to 6k, I can only input -4000 in the "Tax Withholding - Subtraction Adjustment", as it can only take a negative value. But turbotax thinks that person A's withholding is 14k, it seems to be subtracting whatever value is entered, but double negation resulted in addition.

This is an error in the program and is currently being worked on. If you are using the desktop version of TurboTax, you need to run your updates by using the Online and then Updates menu options periodically until you find the issue resolved. If you are using the online version of TurboTax, the correction will be made without any input from you, you just need to log into your program periodically until you find the issue resolved.

I was able to get around this by inputting the negative number then switching over to the Forms version and updating it there. You have to input it in the "Step by Step" first though, then go to Forms and click the plus sign that brings up a little pop up. The little pop up is the only spot it lets you accurately input the numbers.

Hope this helps out!
