I paid $2145 total to include 6 different VA 529 accounts. My refund did not change at all when I entered the amounts. I am 65 and they are my accounts.

Take a look at your VA return. The 529 contributions go on Sched ADJ. Verify that you have the form ADJ. The ADJ flows to your 760 on line 13. Verify your entry there. If the line is blank or reduced, it would be based on your tax liability.

Next, check your tax liability on your VA return. Look at your line 18, net tax. If it is zero or small, the 529 credits will need to carry forward.

You can also look at line 19 tax withheld and lines 20 & 21 for estimates paid and overpayment from last year.

My guess is with all the new tax changes, your taxable income is lowered and some or all 529's will need to be carried forward.

To print or view your forms, including all worksheets:

In desktop, switch to Forms Mode.
For online:
1. On the left side, select Tax Tools
2. Select Print center
3. Select Print, save or preview this year's return
4. If you have not paid, select pay now.
