Can’t Delete Form 8959

When I try to submit my taxes, TurboTax tells me I don’t have a simple return due to the form 8959. I come nowhere near the threshold for this and every time I try to delete it, it says it’s successful but doesn’t actually delete it. How do I fix this and bypass the attempt to charge me for a simple return.

View your tax return - how much income is reported. You probably have a typo if your return is generating Form 8959.

No typos, triple checked everything, and box 6 is exactly 1.45%. Only made about $30k so I am nowhere near the threshold.

They are working on removing the ''UPGRADE / you need Form 8959'' message. Check back next week; the IRS will start accepting tax returns then.

Hi! Are there any updates on when the "Upgrade - Form 8959" message will be resolved? The IRS is taking returns now and TurboTax is still trying to require me to upgrade and pay for a simple return.

Not at this time @alexedwards1166. The developers are aware of the issue; you are not alone, and we are working on removing that message as I type.

I’ve heard deleting the cents part of Box 6 fixes the issue! Not sure if this worked tho bc I ended up finding an extra tax break that ACTUALLY required the upgrade.

Confirmed it works, but your refund goes down by a dollar. Better than paying $50 just to be done with it. 🙄

How did you get it to work? I am still trying to delete it and it is still there forcing the upgrade.

Removed the cents portion from box 6 of w-2, like I said my refund went down a dollar but it went through. Already got approved too.
