After more than 30 years of using TurboTax—starting with Deluxe, then Premier and eventually upgrading to Home & Business—I was disappointed to learn that Intuit plans to discontinue ItsDeductible on October 21, 2025.

ItsDeductible has been a cornerstone tool for tracking charitable donations and estimating fair market values, especially for non-cash items. It’s helped me stay organized, maximize deductions, and file with confidence. Removing it feels like a step backward in making tax prep accessible and thorough for everyday users.

This isn’t the first time TurboTax has tried to sunset ItsDeductible. In 2022, they reversed course after significant user backlash. Clearly, this tool matters—and not just to me.

What makes this even harder to accept is the pricing trend. Over the past decade, TurboTax Home & Business has climbed from $79–$99 to $150–$180 or more, depending on the season and vendor. For a product that continues to rise in cost, it’s especially frustrating to see valuable functionality stripped away without a comparable replacement.

I urge Intuit and the TurboTax leadership team to reconsider—or at the very least, offer a solution that preserves the functionality and ease of use we’ve come to rely on.

Reply from complaint to the office of the president below - I’ve been a subscriber since TurboTax was released but subscription officially canceled and all forms of payment removed from their site. They obviously could care less what their customers want so I will no longer be a customer

This is truly disappointing. At first, I thought your reply was genuinely engaging with my concerns—but as I read on, it became clear it was just a generic cut-and-paste response. Including a placeholder for a phone number, then leaving it blank, only reinforced that impression.

While I appreciate the quick turnaround, the response does little to address the actual issue. More importantly, it misses a key opportunity: asking users for input. That simple gesture could go a long way in understanding user experience, concerns, and how to recover from the blow Intuit has dealt itself with this decision.

Quick update—I’ll share a more detailed summary later today.

Yesterday, I received a call from Intuit TurboTax, but I was tied up with a prior commitment and couldn’t answer. They followed up with an email inviting me to schedule a call to discuss my concerns. The tone was surprisingly optimistic, suggesting they believed a resolution might be possible.

I spoke with a different representative this morning. She was pleasant and receptive, and took time to listen. However, she wasn’t able to offer any resolution or new information. In fact, she confirmed there’s currently no update regarding a delay or reversal of Intuit’s decision to sunset ItsDeductible.

I took detailed notes and will share a full recap later today. Thanks again to everyone supporting this effort to help Intuit recognize the impact of this decision—and the opportunity they still have to make it right.

This is really frustrating - and why such short notice within the tax year.

AT LEAST allow your customers to sue it through Tac Year 2025 for 2025 taxes.

Seems arbitrary and capricious otherwise!

This is NOT how you treat LONG TERM Customers.

It's Deductible keeps your customers connected with you.

Now your breaking that with this insulting timing of this closeout.

Please push to at least cover CY 2025!

If it is true that ItsDeductible will be discontinued, there is nothing to differentiate between any other software out on the market. In 2022, we - the customers - spoke loudly. Despite all the business reasons, the CEO doesn’t want to listen, then the customer base will massively decrease. Loyalty goes both way. I’m no longer going to stress about it.

Keep it, keep me. Discontinue it, I’m leaving.

I fully agree with this thread and the concern that has been expressed. I've been using Turbotax for over a decade and have come to rely on ItsDeductible. I'm massively disappointed in the discontinuation of it and will be searching for a different product that enables me to track items I donate to various charities with the same ease. Discontinuing this software makes me more likely to discontinue Turbotax as well.

Agree with all the posts in this thread. I make lots of donations throughout the year. ItsDeductible saves me so much time when preparing returns and helps me keep track of where and how much I've given. Will definitely look into alternatives to TurboTax if the ItsDeductible import will not be available for 2025.

I've been using TurboTax for years and itsdeductible is one of the reasons I have been a loyal customer. I use it regularly throughout the year. I will be checking out other products for the first time. Really disappointed by this decision.

Sharing an update based on my recent interaction with Intuit.

Following a phone conversation with their customer care team, I received an email response. The representative I spoke with was courteous and seemed genuinely empathetic. That said, they were not in a position to offer any new information—neither regarding a potential reversal of the decision to sunset ItsDeductible, nor about options for mid-year data downloads or importing into TurboTax 2025.

Bottom line: loyal customers are still left without answers or a clear path forward.

If you’ve had similar experiences or concerns, I encourage you to share them here. The more voices we raise, the more likely Intuit is to take notice. You can also submit feedback directly through their official support page or via the TurboTax product feedback form.

I just made a plea through the Intuit feedback email to AT LEAST give us the option to upload the data - similar to the way It's Deductible uploaded it.

I have downloaded the It's Deductible files, and they are simple CSV / Excel type files. 9 columns of data. At least I would be able to track my donations in a spreadsheet, assign values and upload the data during tax time - versus keying them all individually in a cumbersome TurboTax screen.

If Intuit isn't going to support It's Deductible, at least open up the options for 3rd parties to make uploadable formats for charitable contributions.

I’m another longtime TurboTax user, ever since 2007. ItsDeductible has made managing our various donations so much easier and has been a big reason for maintaining the subscription. Like everyone else on this thread, I am very disappointed not only in the abrupt decision to eliminate ItsDeductible, but to do so in October rather than at the end of the calendar year. The biggest disappointment of course is the lack of any indication of how the data are to be managed, possible alternatives, or any kind of resolution. I too will be considering other options.

I am disappointed to see that TurboTax has not learned from their experience three years ago when they decided to sunset ItsDeductible, and are now repeating this decision, leaving loyal customers who experienced this change previously shaking their heads in disbelief and feeling understandably confused and frustrated. One of the most concerning aspects is the lack of transparent reasoning behind and timing of the decision. As others have pointed out, if the issue is related to costs—such as development, maintenance, or server expenses—it would be helpful for TurboTax to determine the cost per user needed to sustain the service and consider offering it as an optional paid feature, giving the end user the option to select features that best meet their needs. If the decision is based on low usage, providing clear data indicating that a certain percentage of users do not utilize the feature and that maintaining it isn't financially feasible/responsible would be appreciated. When removing a service so close to the end of the year, clearer and more transparent communication regarding the reasoning would go a long way, as this situation is more than just an inconvenience.

The way the decision to sunset the application has been handled raises concerns about whether leadership truly values its users as part of the TurboTax community. If the goal is to foster a sense of "family," as their discontinuation notice communication implied, it’s important to treat customers with respect and consideration, especially during transitions like this, which leave customers scrambling unnecessarily. TurboTax - please consider a more thoughtful approach: if you plan to sunset a product, do so within a timeline that respects your users' needs and provides sufficient notice.

Furthermore, offering a discount to purchase a product that no longer fully meets customer needs is insufficient—if time is money, I’m actually losing money since I now need spend time to find alternative solutions, such as locating another product that accommodates charitable donation tracking or creating a spreadsheet from data provided by organizations like Goodwill. This additional effort, while still paying for a product that falls short, is not the most practical or efficient solution, and is certainly not worth the expense of my time or my money. Common sense suggests that exploring better options that are suitable for all involved would serve both customers and the company more effectively, and I urge TurboTax to reconsider its decision, and have the courage to change course, like you did three years ago. Unfortunately, this time around, if you do not, you definitely risk losing customers, myself included, as we search for options from other providers that better align with our needs.

Incredibly well said, and the office of the president would be wise to present this very cogent and logical assessment to executive leadership.

As stated in an earlier post, not only is it shortsighted to sunset this very useful and valuable application, but seems almost purposely petty and capricious to do so during the last quarter of the calendar year.

All this seems to be a perfect case study for business schools to show what not to do.

and as far as the conclusion that this is not a profitable application for them, perhaps just a little bit of effective communication on how easy it makes to give, could go a long way in both community impact, but from a bottom line perspective, customer loyalty.

I agree with all the previous posts and I will be looking for a new text software to do my 2025 taxes. If I have to find a new way to keep track of my charitable donations a muzzle start now is wait till next year.

I spoke to TurboTax Support and let them know that the removal of It's Deductible will cause me to look elsewhere. The support person was very nice, and said she would pass my comments on to the presidents office. At least the person that I spoke to admitted she did not do her own taxes on Turbo Tax using It's Deductible as I explained if you did, you would not even consider getting rid of It's Deductible. She was very helpful and pointed me to where to cancel my automatic renewal. As we are just one month from the posted termination date, I have lost hope that they will reconsider. Guess they really don't care if they loose loyal customers.
