1099R section for 2025 income says available soon. Any estimated date?

I am using the TurboTax Home and Business desktop version for 2025. When I tried to enter my 1099R information on the step-by-step option, there is a note that it will be available soon. I can find no information on when this might be resolved. I have been checking back every few days. There was an update yesterday (1/7/26) that I installed and this was not fixed. Any idea of when this might be resolved?

I don't think anyone here knows exact dates for these sections, updates generally come weekly so I wouldn't plan on "any day now" with these major sections, they won't release these sections until they're fully certified for filing at this point.

If you're trying to do estimates, 1099B (Schedule D via Capital Asset Sales worksheet) and 1099R can be input directly in Forms mode if comfortable with that. If doing Roth conversion etc you'd need to go through 8606 in Forms mode also and provide any contribution details and IRA market value for 12/31/25.

The estimated date for 1099-R input is January 21.

You stated the Date for 1099R input is Jan 21 2026. Is this from IRS?

We're talking about availability in TurboTax. The estimated date comes from one of the moderators of this TurboTax support forum.

Thus...check for it on Thursday, the 22nd.

If they get their act together....might be the 15th, so you could check then, but don't plan on it.

Yes I did enter one 1099 R manually but I can't see how to enter another one (joint return) can you tell me how?

Well, you might be able to enter your data when using the Desktop software in Forms Mode.

And to add a new one that doesn't exist yet.... go to the upper left corner "Open Form" , and search for and add a new 1099-R form that way. Make sure you indicate which spouse the 1099-R is for.

But a major caution.....once the 1099-R area is fully implemented after 21 January, you absolutely must, go thru each of those forms in the interview (Edit each one in the interview), because there are a number of critical follow-up questions that must be answered so they get implemented properly. Simply entering your data in the forms is not sufficient. Questions about RMDs, or QCDs, "Public" pensions, or other special situations that can only be dealt with easily thru the interview.

If I input my 1099 R into the "forms" mode on desktop Windows version of Home and Business, will it be available when Turbotax updates their software?

Yes, a 1099-R that you enter in forms mode will still be there after TurboTax updates the software, and it will appear in the list of 1099-R forms in the Step-by-Step interview. But be sure to read the "major caution" in the post by SteamTrain above.

I hit the link for an email update when the form 1099R is available. I immediately got an email stating that form 3903 was now available....so the LINK def doesn't work correctly! I sent this info to my manager!

Form 1099-R appears to be available on the IRS website (1099R ), and has been for a few days. Not sure why TurboTax hasn't updated it yet.

We don’t know what details in the retirement space that TurboTax has been waiting on from IRS, and even once answered it takes time to test and release software that’s certified for filing. According to the many other posts that come hourly, this section is expected next week (21 so probably 22nd) but stay tuned.

@user17612634912 dates change - scroll for the latest - later replies here say 21st is the current expectation. Turbotax does weekly updates so try next Wednesday.

This is a disgrace. Other tax programs already have this form. What is taking Turbo Tax so long? I have been using Turbo Tax for over 10 years. I will be considering another tax program next year.

Fair enough. I did see on a post where you can switch to Forms view and manually fill in the 1099R sections, with the caveat that you will have to verify them using the regular software steps, once the upgrade is released. Kind of kludgy, but I was abet to at least get a decent approximation of my tax liability today, rather than next week. I would not file my taxes using the forms approach. FWIW.

Yeah, they need to throw some additional developers at this, or -- likely more accurate -- clean up their code a bit so that it is less difficult to maintain year-to-year.
