To complete and file a 2024 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2024 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

A 2024 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.

Sorry it's too, late to start a 2024 or prior online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS. And too late to efile. If you need to do 2024 or prior you can buy the Desktop download here,

TurboTax 2022 Prior Year Tax Prep - File Past Years' Taxes

You will need Windows 10 or Mac OS Ventura 13 or later to install 2024.

If you can't install the Desktop program or if you have a simple return and want to file for free, you can print out the blank IRS forms and fill them out by hand. Here are some basic forms…..

Here is the IRS 2024 Form 1040
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2024.pdf

or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors,
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2024.pdf

And 2024 Instructions
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2024.pdf

Sch 1 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2024.pdf
Sch 2 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2024.pdf
Sch 3 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2024.pdf

Then when you do file 2025 enter 0 for the 2024 AGI since you are filing 2024 late.

You have to print and mail prior year returns. When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.

Turbotax doesn't support further online prep or e-file for 2024; if you need to file 2024 and don't want to deal with downloading desktop software for 2024 and printing forms then check into other alternatives such as FreeTaxUSA that support online filing for back tax years - IRS e-file closes Dec 26th so you may still be able to file online thru them (not tried them myself).

https://www.freetaxusa.com/2024

I purchased the desktop software and I am trying to e-file my 2024 return and it says Turbotax filing season has closed and that I need to print and mail it. How do I get around this?

E-filing is permanently closed for 2024. The only way to file the return is by mail. Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
