Import 2023 tax data

My TurboTax 2023 folder does not include a .tax2023 file. It has the .PDF report including all forms and worksheets. Should I be able to upload that data to my 2024 return?

How did you do the 2023 tax return? Did you use the Desktop program? You really need the .tax2023 file. Did you search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax2023 etc?And check the recycle bin and your backups. Check in One Drive, Drop Box, etc. It should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2023 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one.

If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2023". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.

Transferring from a pdf file is very limited and not worth doing. And you can't transfer from a 1040SR pdf. You really need to Transfer from the .tax2023 file.

Here's an idea. Do you still have 2023 installed? Try opening 2023 program and see if you can get your 2023 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. Then save it again with a name and place you can find. Go to File - Save As. Then start a new 2024 return and transfer from the 2023 file.
