I caught it in time so the person who fraudulently efile my 2024 return so that person fortunately didn't receive the funds.

If someone already used your SSN on a tax return and the return was accepted by the IRS, the IRS will reject your own e-filed return. Prepare your return and print, sign and mail it in. The IRS will sort out the duplicate use of your Social Security number.

If you have not yet prepared the return, it is too late to use online TurboTax, but you can still use the desktop download on a full PC or Mac.

You can also purchase the desktop download from various retailers such as Costco, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, Sam’s Club, etc. etc. etc.

When you use desktop software, there is an additional fee to e-file a state return. You can avoid that fee if you print, sign and mail the state return.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
