Hello,

I accidentally overcontributed to my traditional IRA for the 2024 tax year, with some contributions made in 2024 and others made in 2025 before April 15. I completed an excess contribution withdrawal in the summer of 2025, and want to report this in my 2024 tax returns without waiting for my 1099-R to arrive in 2026. I am younger than 59 1/2, and I am unsure of which codes to put in my 1099-R. I know that for Roth IRA distributions, I have read that it should be codes P and J. What codes should I use for this traditional IRA excess contribution withdrawal? Since I removed it before October 15 2025 and am reporting it in my 2024 tax returns, does that still count as code P?
