Installing TurboTax for Home and Business

I already have Turbotax installed on my computer. I am trying to upgrade to the Home and Business version in order to file a 1041 Return. I have downloaded the software but am getting an error message that says I need to configure my existing turbotax program using the add/remove function in the settings control panel. What does this mean? Do I need to uninstall the existing version of turbotax? If I do, will I lose all of the 2024 tax files that I already created?

Form 1041 is supported by TurboTax Business, not TurboTax Home & Business. TurboTax Home & Business is only for individual tax returns, Form 1040, and cannot be used to prepare Form 1041.

TurboTax Business is a separate desktop download software that only works with Windows. TT Business CAN be downloaded/installed to the same computer on which you already have Home and Business.

Home & Business is a personal version. You can only have 1 personal program installed. There is a way to have 2 licenses. You don't need to install the second version just enter the License Code. Under Help - Switch Product - Activate new product.

But using Home & Business will not get you the 1041 tax return. Home & Business is just for personal returns that need schedule C for self employment. You need the separate Business program. TT Business is not available to do online or on a Mac. You can buy the Windows Desktop program here,

You can have both a personal program and the Business program installed on the same computer at the same time. Since you don't need Home & Business you should ask for a refund for it .
