Hi:

In the "Simplified Foreign Tax Credit Election Smart Worksheet" it is asking me 2 question.

1. Was the simplified AMT Foreign tax credit limitation was selected in the past? (I have never encountered this previously) I guess I need to answer this as "This is the first year"

2. Elect to use the simplified AMT Foreign tax limitation this year? Yes or No. -

Is it better to go with "Simplified AMT Foreign Tax Credit Limitation" and say "Yes" here?

You are correct in both selections. If you've never used the Simplified AMT FTC before then this is your first year. It is better to use the Simplified version because it is simply simpler (pun intended) then not using it. TurboTax will figure it for you.

@girigiri , agreeing with my colleague @robtm that this is usually the best choice. However, from your post ----I have never encountered this previously--- suggests that you have used FTC before . If that is true then you have to be sure of your selection "This is the First Year" -- Note that you are under Perjury jurat when you file a return. Please look at your past returns with FTC claim to make sure this is indeed the first year -- if unsure , I would feel more secure in NOT checking that "this is the first year".
