(a) is this your first year filing as MFJ ( Married Filing Joint ) ?

(b) is the spouse an NRA or a US person ?

(c) If spouse a US person, is this his/her first year filing ?

While the above may throw light on why the "rejection code ", at the wend of the day , I think your only viable option is to file by mail. Hope you still have a US bank account or else any refund check will take a while to travel through the system to be cashed. You can also visit the nearest US consulate -- they often have a IRS section ( especially if there is substantial expat or military population near by ).

BWT -- which country are you talking about ?

I live overseas so am using TurboTax for the first time to help with filing. However, my submission is being rejected for the reason IND-032-04 dealing with my spouse's income. We filed jointly, and I have the correct AGI from the IRS website. I've read all the proposed solutions to this issue including entering 0 but still no solution. Filing this by mail is extremely difficult, which is why I went the TurboTax route. Does anyone have an updated or fresh solution for me? Very frustrated TT user now.

Does anyone have an updated or fresh solution for me? Very frustrated TT user now.

There are only 4 possibilities of verifying AGI for efile for a married joint return.

If the 2023 return was married filing jointly, here are the choices to try in order, some of which you have already tried. The 2023 AGI is on your joint 2023 Form 1040, Line 11. You can also verify it in your IRS online account or on a 2023 transcript (also in the IRS account.) Even if it's in the online account and transcript, a rejection can still occur if the IRS doesn't have it in the efile database, commonly if a 2023 return was filed late in the year last year.

Primary filer

Spouse

Total joint 2023 AGI

Total joint 2023 AGI

Total joint 2023 AGI

2023 AGI of 0

2023 AGI of 0

2023 AGI of 0

2023 AGI of 0 *

Total joint 2023 AGI *

.

*The last one really doesn't make sense with IND-032-04, but if it were me and nothing else has worked, I'd try all permutations before giving up.

If none of those work, and if postal mail is a problem from the country where you live, would you want to use a private delivery service such as FedEx, UPS, or DHL if one of those is available in your country? If so, we can give you more info on doing that including how to find the special IRS street address at the IRS website to use for private delivery services.
