I purchased an EV in December 2024 from a private seller who had purchased it brand new. I entered the info on my return, but it was rejected as "SA-F8936-030-01 - Schedule A (Form 8936), 'VIN' does not match the e-File database." However, the VIN is correct. Is there something the seller needs to file or any suggestions on how to correct this.

The credit is not available when the vehicle is purchased through a private seller.

The sale qualifies only if:

You buy the vehicle from a dealer.
For qualified used EVs, the dealer reports required information to you at the time of sale and to the IRS.
