1040 X not created for amended return

I would like to amend my 2023 return. I opened the 2023 file and selected amend the return. After making the required changes, I saved the amended return under a different name.

Turbotax did not create a 1040-X for the amended return and made the same changes to my original return file even though I did not save it.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Start the TurboTax program for tax year 2023

Continue the tax return you need to amend

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)

Click on Other Tax Situations

Under Other Tax Forms

On Amend a return, click the start button

Thanks. How do I get my original Turbotax file back? It's been written over with the amended file even though I did not save it.

If you did not save the original tax return with a unique name before amending, then the original Form 1040 is gone.
