What do you mean by "download my tax timeline"? What are you wanting to do? Are you wanting to download a 2015 return you prepared online? Are you wanting an online *.tax2015 data file to transfer into a new 2016 desktop return?

Are your 2015 returns locked in the Tax Timeline because they were prepared in Free Edition?

I am trying to open 2012 tax documents that were prepared with turbo tax home and business with the turbo tax home and business 2016 and i have always bought the cd program at a local retailer but it tells me that in order to access prior years tax files i have to pay for plus I dont think it knows i bought and downloaded the new 2016 program

I'll tell you how to phone TurboTax Support so you can tell them you bought the 2016 desktop product and ask them to unlock your online returns.

So your 2012 return was prepared online and is locked in the Tax Timeline? Only online returns are going to be in the Tax Timeline.

2016 Home and Business can only open a *.tax2016 data file. It cannot open a *.tax2012 data file. One would need the desktop 2012 Home and Business to open the *.tax2012 data file. You would be able to view the 2012 PDF, however.

Use the form at this link to be assigned a phone number. The number will not display when they are closed. This time of year they are open 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern) 7 days/week. Fill out 2 short forms about your issue, then click the blue "Get a phone number."
