Cannot open old Turbotax returns without entering license code

I needed to go back to some old TT returns to check some items. When I tried to open the old tax returns the appropriate year TT program started, but then I was presented with a window saying I needed to enter the registration information. This happened for multiple past years.

For each of these old TT programs I entered the license information when I installed it. Why do I need to keep re-entering license information that has already been installed?
