topic amend 2021 tax return filing status from single to married separately in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I want to amend my 2021 tax return because I filed as single instead of married separately due to my husband being a NRA. Its actually the advice I got from the turbo tax agent I spoke to the first time I filed my tax since I was not sure at that time and then I carried over the same status for my 2022 and 2023 return though I did not do 2022 and 2023 tax return through turbo tax. My husband arrived in the US 2023 and got his SSN. I want to amend my 2021 tax as married separately, should I enter his SSN though he doesn't have it last 2021 or should I put the 999-88-999, print, erase it, and put NRA as I was reading from previous posts and advise?

Since your husband has a SSN now, you should enter his SSN on the amended tax return.

Thanks. If I file to amend filing status to married separately, do I have to wait response before I file tax return this year? Because I am planning to file as married jointly.

No, you don't need to wait for your amended return to be accepted to file your 2024 return. It's possible that there may be a delay in processing your 2024 return until your 2021 amended return is fully processed, but you can still go ahead and file it now.
