The federal carryover worksheet correctly shows the tax liability for 2023. However, the amount entered on Form 2210, part 1, line 8 shows a higher number. This discrepancy causes a penalty to be calculated when it should be zero.

If you'd like, we can look at your return and see exactly what you see to help come to a resolution. The return will be scrubbed and won't include any of your personal details.

If you're using TurboTax Online:

Once you're logged in to your account,

- on the left hand panel, click on Tax Tools and then choose Tools

- on the pop up window, select Share my file with Agent

- you'll see a message saying you'll give us a copy of your tax return. Your personal information will be changed so we can't see any private information.

- click okay and you'll get another message with a token

If you're using TurboTax Desktop:

Click on Online in the top menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows
Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'
Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
We can then review your exact scenario for a solution

Please reply to this message with your token so that we can further assist you. Let us know all the states, if any, that are included on the return.

I've sent a token number as instructed, and I always get this back-

Delivery incomplete

There was a temporary problem delivering your message to [email address removed].xxx." Gmail will retry for 21 more hours. You'll be notified if the delivery fails permanently.

You need to post the token number as a reply to this thread. If it filters out the number you can post a screen shot of the token number. You can't email Turbo Tax back.

Thank you for sending your token.

When your income is over $150,000, your safe harbor for estimated payments is 110% of your prior-year liability. Line 8 of Part I of Form 2210 is 110% of your 2023 tax liability. You would have needed to pay the lesser of this number or 90% of your current year liability to avoid the underpayment penalty.
