Refund check was 155 dollars less

I just got a check from Green Dot Bank today. My state return was supposed to be 371 according to the IRS and TT. However when I opened the mail today is was a check of 216.22.

I never authorized any amount of money to come off my taxes. I don't owe child support, I file my taxes every year.

Why did they do this?

The IRS has nothing to do with your state refund. The IRS only processes your federal return and issues a federal refund. If you had TurboTax fees deducted from your federal return, then your federal return would have come from Green Dot Bank.

What is Refund Processing Service?

MY STATE REFUND WAS LESS THAN I EXPECTED

The state will send you a letter explaining the change. TurboTax does not get any feedback from your state after your return is accepted, so no one at TT knows why your state refund was less. Did you owe back taxes, child support, or student loans? Traffic fines, etc.?

the IRS has nothing to do with your state refund.

so is it a federal refund or a state refund?

if it was a federal refund, did you elect to have your Turbotax fees taken out? Fess can not be taken out of a state refund.

if not, you should get a letter of explanation from the tax authority issuing the refund (IRS or state) or call the proper authority for an explanation.

Your state's refund may be less than expected for several reasons:

There was an error on your return that was corrected by your state. If this is the case you will get a notice explaining why a correction was made

You paid your TurboTax fees with your state refund

Your state reduced your refund for debts owed in your state—if the state reduced your state refund, you will receive a letter from the state
