Desktop software only...which you have:

The state e-file fee procedure changed slightly for this season.

The state e-file fee is $20 for those who had previously signed up for the "Advantage" program.....which is a subscription that automatically charges/buys the desktop software for the new season...every succeeding year in Nov-Dec without you taking any action.

The state e-file fee is $25 for those folks (like me) who just buy a single copy every year on their own, and don't want the yearly subscription> (I don't subscribe, because I can buy it cheaper with a discount cookie from my financial provider...I might save myself a whole $10 or $20....big whoop).

___________________

In prior years, TTX charged $20 for the state e-file, early in the year for everyone, then upped it on March 1 to $25. Not so this year, but I have yet to find out if my $25 e-file gets upped to $30 since I haven't filed yet.

_______________

Then, except for the NY folks, who have no state e-file fee for NY filing.

______________________

The "Online" software doesn't have a state e-file fee, but you ALWAYS have to pay extra for state software in the first place ($40-$65 more than the base price)...so it can end up being ~the same total charge....unless you have more than one tax return to file (for family members), where desktop is definitely cheaper.

Desktop is preferred by the most experienced users of TTX, since we always have direct access to the underlying forms...The Onilne software doesn't allow that.

I bought TurboTax for 2024 Tax Year in January 2025. Online it states that the state efile is $20 if filed before March 1. I filed on February 28. Why was I charged $25? Also, there is discussion on community board where some people say that if you buy the Deluxe online and download it, there is no state efile fee. Is that true?
