Today I received a 2025 1040es and a 2024 1040v in the mail. I am not self employed so have no idea what these are for and what to do with them? Where would I even find any information? I went on to my irs account and see no information there either. I file jointly with my spouse and am a W2 employee. Thanks

The IRS may have sent them as a courtesy if you had a balance due in a previous year. You are in no way required to use these forms and can shred them if you don't need or want them.

2024 Form 1040-V would be used if you are mailing a payment to the IRS for your 2024 Tax Return.

2025 Form 1040-ES would be used if you are mailing the IRS payments towards your 2025 Tax Return.

I get that, but why would they randomly send it as a courtesy when I am not self employed, file jointly and have not owed in the past.

Normally the IRS sends them if you had a balance due in a previous year. If that is not the case for you, I am not sure why they sent them. If you are so inclined, you can contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and they may be able to shed some light on the reason why they were mailed to you.

As mentioned before, you can safely ignore these forms if you do not have a balance due on your 2024 return and do not need to make estimated tax payments for 2025.
