I am always promised free state when I download turbo tax but it is never there?

In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $25 to efile. Or you can print and mail state for free.

Of course, if you buy Deluxe from anyone except directly from TTX?

Then you have to be careful to buy the Deluxe version that does include the one state software download....because there are some "slightly" cheaper Deluxe versions out at 3rd party sellers, that does not include the free state. Premier and H&B are only available with one free state download.

For instance....right now Amazon is selling

2024 Deluxe Fed+State for $56

2024 Deluxe Fed only for $48

But actually E-filing any state costs $20 or $25 (except NY)

You probably won't feel better, but you're not the only one to get scammed, makes you wonder about the whole company, imagine how much money made off this false advertisment.

There is no scam about it. If you buy an edition of TurboTax that includes a state return, it says exactly that .. a return. If you buy an edition of TurboTax that includes a federal e-file, it clearly states that.

To my knowledge, no edition of TurboTax has EVER included a state e-file. Period. [Though not sold as including a state e-file, e-filing in New York is free by law.]
