When you use Online TurboTax, you get one return per fee. Each return needs its own account and user ID. If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, you overwrite the first one and lose it forever.

Add to what? You can't add or share. Are you using the Desktop program or the Online version? The Desktop program can do multiple returns for your family etc.

Well you would know if you bought the Desktop program, downloaded it and installed it with the 16 digit License Code. The Desktop program is blue across the top and the menu items like Federal, State, Review, File go across the top.

When you filled out your return did you go online and log in? And see a black column on the left side with the menu items, Federal, State, File etc. That is Online.

Thanks.... I think I might have done it on line..... I assume if I try to purchase download version it should tell me if I already have it downloaded?

So if I purchase download version, I assume I just download it once, and then each year, I pay when I do taxes ?

Sorry for all the questions....it's just that my daughter has to start doing taxes this year and thought we could do them with my account, but I think I need to buy the download version...... She may need to do taxes for 2023 as well... can she do that if I purchase download (eg, will it let her do previous year's taxes? )

For the desktop version of TurboTax, you can complete up to 5 tax returns. However, it will require you to use the same email address and phone number.

To complete a separate tax return through TurboTax Online, you will need to create a separate account. Please see the following:

NO. You have to buy and download a new program each year. Turbo Tax is only good for the year you buy.

Yes if you need to do returns for more than 1 person you should buy the Desktop program (each year). The Online web version is only good for 1 return per account.

If she needs to do a 2023 return you need to buy the 2023 Desktop program here,

Sorry I don’t understand your question. Please explain more. Are you using the Online version?

Online is only good for 1 return per account. Don’t use your account or you will overwrite your return and it will be gone. And you have to pay for each account separately so it might get expensive.

You can start another return in TurboTax Online by:

Logging out if you are in your account
Choose what TurboTax Online product you want to use for the second return
Create your account screen
Set up a new login for the second return
Start working on the new return

The Desktop program can do unlimited returns and efile 5 federal for free. You can buy the Desktop Download program directly from Turbo Tax
