E-filing multiple tax returns

Every year I file my tax returns using TurboTax. I only had to buy the CD, but I never had to pay an additional e-fling fee. This year is different. I had to purchase a license code plus I had to pay to e-file my returns. In prior years, I was able to file my mother's tax returns and my stepson's tax returns using the same CD, but this year, TurboTax did not give me that option. Why? I just filed my taxes, and I am trying to file my mother's taxes, but TurboTax won't let me. Why?

If you purchased and installed the 2024 desktop software on your personal computer using the license code, then to start another tax return, just click on the File menu at the top of the desktop program screen and then click on New Tax Return.

The desktop editions come with 5 free federal e-filed. There is a state e-file charge of $25 to e-file each state tax return but that charge can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.

The download is the same as the CD Desktop program. Are you seeing a fee to efile state? Or to do each federal return too. Sounds like you accidentally got into the Online version instead of the Desktop program. Did you get the download installed and activated with the 16 digit License Code?

Online has the menu items down the left side in a black bar. The Desktop programs have the tabs going across the top.

You can move an Online return to the Desktop program before paying for Online and without needing to start over.

If you entered your info into the Online version you can move it to the Desktop program without paying for Online. To continue in the desktop version see this…….

I keep clicking New Tax return, but the programs only searches for last years. There is NO last years to transfer.

How do I start a new return without transferring info from last year

@spadley1 If you are using the TurboTax desktop editions, after clicking on New Tax Return and landing on the Transfer screen, click on the button labeled Continue Without Transferring
