TurboTax determines your filing status based on the information you provide when answering questions about yourself and your household.

To change your filing status, you can do the following:

In TurboTax Desktop you will:

Go back to your "Personal Info" tab if you are using TurboTax Desktop
Follow the screens and answer the questions
You will come to the screen "Were You Married" and you can select your marital status
That screen says: "Make a selection and we'll recommend a filing status"
Answer the follow-up screens
You will come to a screen that says "We've Chosen a Filing Status For You"
You are given the option to "Change My Filing Status" by checking the box

In TurboTax Online you will:

TurboTax Desktop screen "Were You Married?"

TurboTax will choose your filing status based on your answers but you can change it

TurboTax Online Search for "Filing Status"

TurboTax Online Select Married or Single:

If you check Married" the boxes expand and you can choose your staus:
