Hello,

I am stressed because of my case and need some suggestions.

I worked at XYZ till August 2024. The company did not pay me for some pay cycle. They said they would pay me later but never did.

Also, the next issue is I got the W2 for the time I worked in 2024 recently, but it was way off the actual values. I tried contacting the CEO, but got no reply. From the IRS website, I learnt that if I don't get the correct W2, I could let IRS know about it and they would take the action. I was going to do that but I learned that the CEO collapsed recently and the doctor declared him brain-dead and I have no update on him. Now, I feel sad about him, but I also want to protect myself. What's the best step that I take forward from here so that I don't do any kind of violation? Also, is there any way I can get the tax my previous company paid to IRS on my behalf?

Thanks in advance!

How many jobs did you have in 2024? You will need to include ALL of your jobs from 2024 on ONE tax return. When you include the W-2 from your previous job it will be added with all of your other jobs and then if you are eligible you will get a refund.

If you are referring to a previous year job, then you would need to file a tax return for that year if you did not already file one to claim a refund if you are entitled to one.

As for what to do with the job that did not properly report your income on your W-2...you will need to file the return with the correct income information. You can click here for instructions on how to file a substitute W-2 in TurboTax. Regardless of if you contact the IRS to handle it for just file a substitute W-2 in TurboTax, the IRS will end up stepping in to handle and figure out what happened and how much you should have actually been paid.

Yes it is a messy situation.

Here is more info on this from IRS -- > W-2 - Additional, incorrect, lost, non-receipt, omitted | Internal Revenue Service.

There is also this --> What to do when a W-2 or Form 1099 is missing or incorrect | Internal Revenue Service

Is there more I can do for you ? If you want to discuss this more you can post here or PM me ( note NO PII -- personally Identifiable Information ).
