IRS form 1099-NEC income received as an independent contractor should be reported as self-employment income on Schedule C of the Federal 1040 tax return.

In TurboTax Online, create the self-employment activity by following these steps:

Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.

Across the top of the screen, click on Wages and Income.

Under Your income and Expenses, click the down arrow to the right of Self-employment.

Click to the right of Self-employment income and expenses.

The IRS form 1099-NEC income will be reported as income to the self-employment activity.

Your daughter will be allowed to report ordinary and necessary expenses (perhaps including a standard vehicle mileage allowance) against the income.

I am doing my daughters taxes again and I have never had to enter a NEC1099 before. She worked for Amazon as an independent contractor. She earned over $3000.00 and no taxes withheld. Where does all this information get entered? I so far entered it on Schedule C but how about her mileage that she was told is deductible? Personally I think I messed up because after I entered the NEC1099 information her refund really increased.
