You will use the VLF Paid for tax purposes. The VLF is the portion of your registration fee that is tax deductible.

VLF stands for Vehicle License Fee and is a fee paid for the owning a vehicle in California.

A VLF refund in California is based on the remaining months of your vehicle's registration. You can request a refund by completing an Application for Vehicle License Refund (REG 65) form.

You may be eligible for a refund if your vehicle is a total loss due to theft, a wreck, or other damage
You may be eligible for a refund if you are a nonresident military owner
