Hi,

I moved from NY to MA mid year, and got two W2. Lets say my wages in Box 1 on my MA are $100,000 where I made $60,000 in MA and $40,000 in NY. MY Box 16 on my MA shows as $60,000 but my box 16 on my NY shows as the full $100,000.

Shouldn't box 16 on my NY show as $40,000?

The W-2 is correct. New York has an unusual rule that box 16 must be the same as box 1. Any adjustments are made on the tax return.

No, because New York will tax you on all monies received even in other states. To compensate for including out of state income on the New York return, they will then reduce their tax rate by the fraction of your out of state income to in-state income. So, they end up not taxing your out of state income but it shows as income on the New York tax return.
