Each time you save a file to your hard drive the saved file automatically defaults to the TurboTax folder. Search your PC for the TurboTax folder and you will find any tax return you have saved. See the example below.

@karchin

I have duplicate .tax2023 files (with different dates) in different folders across a network, how does turbotax know which one to use when transferring to 2024 tax program?

Yes, I know I can specify which one to use , but if I don't, which one does turbo tax select and does turbotax notify if duplicates found?

Turbo tax seems to show just 1 of the .tax2023 files, when I know there are at least 2 in different folders.

The 2023 tax data that is being presented for transfer would be in the TurboTax folder in the Documents directory.

That is not true for me. I never use document folder. I save files in FOLDERS like tax2023, tax 2024, etc. Sometimes when I hit save turbotax puts saved file in tax2023 not tax2024, so I wind up with duplicate .tax files in both 2023 and 2024. When I import files for the new year from the old year and I forget to make sure all files for a given year are in the correct folder, there may be 1 file in tax2023 labeled xxx.tax2023 dated 3/3/23 in the tax2022 folder and a similar file labeled xxx.tax2023 dated 4.4.23 in the tax2023 folder.

When this happens I now have 2 files with the same name but different date in 2 different folders. How does turbotax know to use tax file from the tax2023 folder to import into the 2024 program not the tax2022 folder?
