To enter your retirement income, Go to Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA 401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.

Although you might be able to view or print your information from the website, most banks, brokerages and other financial institutions do not have the data formatted for import into tax software before sometime in February. So if you are wanting to enter it sooner, you have to key it in by hand. Or….wait until it is available for import.

If you want to enter it manually, click the option that says “I’ll type it in myself”

To Import or Post a 1099-R

Log into TurboTax

Under Federal
Select Wages & Income
Scroll to and select IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
Now Edit or Add another 1099-R
Select Let's import your tax info or Change How I enter my form
Depending on your choice continue the interview.

To enter, edit or delete a form 1099-R -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Online editions -

On the screen Did you get a 1099-R in 2024? Click on Yes

On the screen Let's import your tax info select or enter the bank or brokerage name and continue

Desktop editions -

On the screen Did you receive any 1099-R forms answer Yes and Continue

On the screen Let Us Enter Your 1099-R, select Import from my bank or brokerage
