My spouse is an Indiana resident (works in Indiana but has about 2 months worth of income from Michigan prior to the move) and I am a Michigan resident (only have ever worked in Michigan). Can we file jointly still?

You can choose to file a joint return. If you file a joint federal income tax return, you must file a joint Michigan and a joint Indiana income tax return. You will be able to indicate the different resident status so the correct income is taxed by each state.

@MaryK4 Agreeing with the advice/ response from my colleague @MaryK4 , just wanted to draw attention to the fact that MI and IN are states with reciprocity agreement ( for income tax purposes) I am assuming of course that you both live in one state but one works in the other state -- thus you can choose to pay taxes to one only ( although this depends to an extent on actual facts and circumstances ).

Hope this helps
