Hello,

My wife and I always file our taxes together as Married Filing Jointly. However, in 2024 for the first time ever, I became an Independent Contractor/Self-Employed, not W2. My wife is still W2. Through my small business, I am eligible to use QuickBooks Solo Entrepenuer which will automatically add my deductions, expenses and mileage etc.

My question is, because we always use my wife’s TurboTax account for our Joint, how do I use or merge by Solo Entrepeneur data to our main Joint TurboTax account? Or do I have to add it all again?

Thanks,

G Powell

You will either have to add your wife's information to your solo entrepreneur account (which would seem easier) or manually add yours to her account.

I do not see any reason to use a different account. If both are now sole proprietors can use the same account and put in both a your business and your wife's. If I am wrong and you are now in a business that does not use Schedule C, then that would require TurboTax Business and a TurboTax Deluxe or TurboTax Self-Employed. The answer depends on exactly what you are now doing.

Add it to your main TurboTax account.

Here is a link that might address your question.

I don't think there is an issue with continuing to use the same TurboTax account you have always used. Adding Schedule C to a TurboTax account that as been W-2 only is not an issue.

You'll want to keep the same order as far as the names listed on your 1040. The IRS matched tax returns to the Social Security number listed first.

Your business activity will be reported on Schedule C which is part of Form 1040 (the tax return you file with your wife).
