Bugs I've found so far with the 2024 DeLuxe download. No problem with installation or getting it running.

I spent 2 hours with chat support and no solution. I had to explain to tech support what Social Security was. I had to show them Step-by-Step view vs Form View and that in Step-by-Step view you see last year's imported figures. I said accurate 2023 numbers are needed for parts of the 2024 return, but they said that 2023 numbers make no difference for a 2024 return.

Some of the issues seem to be with importing last year's data:

Amount entered for 2024 Social Security is duplicated for 2023 instead of being the actual 2023 amount.

The Railroad Retirement Benefit box is checked by default in the form view.

Amount for my 2023 state return refund was much higher number than the actual amount.

I got a refund from the IRS last year. TT summary showed I paid the IRS over $3000 last year which is totally wrong.

We tried several ways to fix it including deleting the SS form, editing the summary, and starting a new return from scratch, but no help.

Plan A: Reinstall TT2023, let it update, open my returns, save them, and start over.

Plan B: Wait a month or two until they get the bugs worked out.

Any help is welcome.

I did Plan A, and it seems to be OK for now. Looks like TT2024 is corrupting TT2023 data during import.

The proposed fix:

Reinstall TT2023

Open TT2023 and let it install the latest updates.

Open your 2023 tax return and fix all the erroneous values TT2024 put in there.

You can use your 2023 pdf copy or dig out your 2023 W2's to enter the correct data.

I only had to correct W2 income and SS distributions.

It should now match up with your 2023 pdf copy.

Close 2023 TT

Open 2024 TT and do any updates if requested.

Start a new 2024 return from scratch. Do not use your old corrupt one.

Hopefully you can now get an accurate 2024 return.
