I am on Turbo Tax Premier 2024 desktop version - it comes with 1 state. However I need to download another state (potentially 2 more in fact) but was charged $40+tax by Intuit just to download it.

I though the additional state fee is only charged when I am "e-filing" with turbo tax, not download/prepare the tax return. I saw 2022/2023 article called out this was an error by Intuit and I should be refunded. I am confused... please let me know?

Sorry. Are they for different states? After the first free state program download you have to buy each additional different state program download for $40 each. Each state program can do unlimited state returns for that state. Then it is free to print and mail the state returns. If you want to efile a state return it is $25 for each state efile in addition to the $40 program.

Just to clarify (if that wasn't clear).... yes it is free to print and mail state returns. The additional state fee is if you want to efile for $25. That is separate from buying the extra state programs.
