How to update Turbo Tax Deluxe 2023 to Turbo Tax Deluxe 2024?

I usually just buy the latest version from Best Buy or Walmart but I got to thinking, can I just update the 2023 version to the latest 2024 version?

you have to buy and download 2024 version as you have usually done. See here for authorized retailers (Walmart not on the list, Amazon has good discount at the moment)

There is new software for each tax year. You cannot update a 2023 program to use it for 2024.

When you use desktop software, there is an additional fee to e-file a state return. You can avoid that fee if you print, sign and mail the state return. The state e-file fee is $20 and increases to $25 in March.

@Rayj00 No. Again---there is new software for each tax year, written for the specific tax laws in effect for that tax year and with the forms for that year. You cannot use 2023 software to prepare a 2024 tax return. "Updating" the software does not make it useable for a different tax year.
