What a rip-off! Now we users have to go to the expense of buying a thumb drive AND burning our OWN CD? Just not acceptable. TurboTax used to be best in the industry and this is a cop-out. Not looking forward to waste MY time and money on a thumb drive AND a CD for future use besides the exorbitant price of a download. If your service is available with software download only, how about a discount on the price? A lose-lose situation for your LOYAL customers!

Why do you need both CD and thumb drive? You only need either one if you want to save the installation file. Even if you bought the CD before you could use the download method to install it. I always bought the CD from Costco. But last year for 2023 I bought the download from Costco online. Installed it real fast. It was the same as the CD. Most of the laptops and computers now don't have a CD drive. And I had to get a new laptop with Windows 10 to run Turbo Tax starting for 2022.

Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to download to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac).

CDs have gone the way of the Dodo bird. Very few computers have CD drives now. No tax software comes on a CD. All have to be downloaded. Another memory from the 1900's like fax machines, VCRs, tape players, and floppy disks.

It's all about getting your information. I never registered the CDs, now they want your info to sell to their 'partners". Wait until people's hard drives fail, or they forget to copy over when they get a new PC. Optical drives are cheap, but do you for a minute think Intuit is going to pass the savings of no CD onto its customers? Hell no.

What is the difference in purchasing a CD or a Download? In either case you have to give your personal information, name, address and credit card info.

All of the downloads are installed on your personal computer, not online or stored in any type of cloud. Your tax return is on your computer, no where else.

The CD is just a piece of plastic that only has the Beta version for installing the tax preparation software. You still have to download twenty plus updates that only go on your computer. The CD is a read only, not a Read/Write so nothing is written to the CD.

Will the 2024 download version allow me to enter my projections for interest income, dividend income and pension income and then calculate my total tax and refund/amount due based upon my entered projections before December 31st? I need to be able to do this for tax planning purposes.

You can now buy an install CD for $10 after you buy a License Code for the version you want.

H&R Block only has downloads for their 2024 tax preparation software.

If you want a CD from TurboTax you only need to purchase the 2024 download and have the license code, then for $10 you can also get a CD. See this TurboTax website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/

Can I now download the 2024 Turbotax if I am outside of the United States? (In prior years, it was not possible to download Turbotax outside of the U.S. I had to purchase the CD edition, but the CD edition is no longer available. I'm not sure what to do.)

In my case, I live outside of the United States. In prior years, I had to purchase the CD edition, because I was not permitted to download the software while in Mexico. Does anybody know if that restriction has been removed? Can I now download the software while outside of the U.S.? (Or does anyone know if the download would work if I connect to a NordVPN server that is in the United States?)
