I always pay for the support from the tax experts. I received a letter that my state DOR is reviewing my state return and I need to provide documentation. I can't find the documentation that was submitted during the return, so I need help to get to the data. Without using the help chat feature, how can I talk to a real person?

If you pay for TurboTax Live, then use the Live option to connect with an expert by chat. You can request that agent to call you if you would rather use the telephone than the chat. The agent will take your number and call you by phone.

TurboTax does not receive any information from the IRS or your state after your return was filed, so no one at TurboTax knows about a letter you received from the IRS or the state.

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS/state tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support. At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support". Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter. Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.

You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Start a 2024 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !

EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

If you got a letter from your State that your return was incorrect, they may have made the required changes for you, and you don't need to Amend your return. There should be contact info in the letter if you have questions.

Yes, I got a letter from the state, making a correction to my tax form. But even they did not properly correct it. TurboTax submitted the wrong tax form. So now you are telling me that I have to file an amended tax form to correct the mistake you made? I paid you to do my taxes, and now I have to do it myself? You are going to loose a lot of customers when I post my horrible experience all over social media.

If you used a tax preparer thru the FULL SERVICE EXPERT option, then their contact information would be on the bottom of page 2 of Form 1040, since they are required to sign all returns they prepare.

@jdmercha If your state sent you a tax notice or adjustment to your return, you have the right to disagree with their changes and respond in writing requesting an abatement of the additional taxes, interest or penalties.

Note: Generally, you should pay the additional tax first, and then requesting a refund with your written response.

As you know, you also have certain options for audit defense with TurboTax stemming from your purchase. If you are still unable to contact Audit Support directly, then I would try contacting Customer Support to make the connecting call.

This will be my last repone to this thread, as I am tired of hearing the same old thing over and over again. I have tried all of this before I even started this post. NONE OF IT WORKS. Customer support can only connect me with my so called "Tax Expert". My tax expert told me that he could not help, and I needed to contact Audit Support. Audit Support cannot be contacted. The phone number does not work. Their web page is totally useless for my situation. The bottom line: TurboTax does not have any tax expert capable of correctly filing my state taxes. I now have to pay the taxes my state is requesting, then file my own amended return to get things right.

I will never use any Intuit product again for the rest of my life. And I will encourage others to do the same.
