Is there an update on when the 2024 onlinbe version will be available? I want to do an estimate to see if I can afford a Roth conversion?

TurboTax does not announce an availability date for TurboTax Online in advance. Keep checking the web site. It should be available soon.

I just went to the turboTurboTax website and the most recent version I am still seeing is 2023. That might be because it is only looking at what years I have previously filed in. Can you provide a direct link to get to the 2024 version to start a new return from scratch?

OK I found the 2024 form but I'm having trouble entering data. Should I start a new question about that?

Specifically it won't let me enter the amount of interest I got from one source even though I know the full year value already. When I open Edit or Add it only wants to let me add a new source, not enter a value for 2024.

When you click on the Add/Edit button for investment income the next screen should be labeled Did you have investment income in 2024? Click on Yes.

The next screen states Let's import your tax info, click on Enter a different way.

The next screen states OK, let's start with one investment type, click on Interest and Continue

The next screen states How would you like to upload your 1099-INT?, click on Type it in myself

On the next screen you can start to enter information for the 1099-INT

The section I was in under Income was labeled:

Investments and Savings (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, Crypto)

American Express

Here's what I see when I click on Add/Edit:

Let’s finish pulling in your investment income

You can import from more accounts by selecting Add investments.

What you entered last year

American Express

1099-INT

Add

I do not see the question about whether I had income in 2024. Clicking on Add at this point only wants to let me add more sources, not bring in or manually add any 2024 info.

@junergenis Do you have these screens when accessing the Wages & Income section?

If you are not seeing these screens or the screens are different, it would be best if you cleared your tax return and started over.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2024 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.

@junergenis There could also be another issue with the interest entries.

If you had interest income in 2023 and that information transferred over to the 2024 tax return, it may be that the software is not yet ready to have the user enter information on the transferred 1099-INT for this payer.

On my 2024 desktop edition for entering interest on a 1099-INT there is a message that this section will not be available until 12/22. Now that message is not on the 2024 online editions, but it appears that the online software may be having an issue with the transferred payer interest data. However, if no interest payer data was transferred from 2023 the user can enter tax data for a new 1099-INT.

That sounds like what may be happening with the online version as well. When I tried to enter "American Express" as a new source it came back with: "Hmm, we can’t find American Express in our list of supported providers."

Any ideas for how to get around this problem? Do you think I can I get away with adding the amount to some other form of Income like my Retirement Distributions? My whole purpose in doing the estimate is to decide if I want to do a Roth conversion. Not being able to run the estimate until 12/22 is cutting things pretty close to make a decision before the end of the year. As I recall you have to actually do it some days before 12/31.

@junergenis You will not be able to import any type of Form 1099 until late January or early February, since that is normally when the TurboTax import partners have their tax data available for the tax year being reported.

Just start a new Form 1099-INT without trying to import. You can always delete the form later when the Import function is available.
